Teacher Vs Student

WRITTEN by SARMAD ASHRAF

Since childhood, I have been observing a war between the teachers and the students, and this war seems to be a never ending one. On every turn, the dynamics, rules, the weapons and the tactics change but what remains same is the urge to win. In primary and middle, it’s always a one sided game. Teachers will make you their slaves and make you feel as if you are the future savior of the world and your deeds will effect all humanity. Knowing that you are not Harry Potter; you try to take revenge by not doing home work, talking in class, coming to school in a dirty getup and remaining quite when you are asked a question. In secondary classes, the students feel that now they are mature and can fight with the teachers on same grounds. However, teachers discover this new weapon of chemistry, physics and mathematics, and fire from a gun called "these two years will decide your future". How absurd that is, I found much later in my life. The real first winning chance is intermediate studies. The teachers have no new weapon, you are grown to a certain level, and even "maula daad" doesn't scare you any more. The soft hands of female teachers have transformed into punching by male teachers by intermediate. I remember my classmates making plans of jumping on our English teacher outside the college due to his "brutal “attitude of punishing them for not doing home tasks. I wonder how he always managed to remain safe from those warriors. The obvious response from the students is bunking the classes, but it comes at a cost of the involvement of parents and then it becomes a bigger mess.
The final chance comes when you pass the intermediate. You get two choices, either do a professional certification or do the academic degree. The most liberal point in a student's life comes when he is doing a professional certification. You are free to argue with teacher, tease him, don't show you face in class and such other things. But you are always revenged by the examiner in lieu of what you did to the teachers, you are failed! The other option, academic degree is very interesting. Eventually you are sure that you are mature, and you enter into a university knowing that now its independence. You presume it to be a fun place, a co-education system and fun loving teachers. But when start off, you feel; like its back to school. Teachers are the ultimate monsters and they will hunt you down with attendance, quizzes, assignments, projects, mid and finals. And at times, even when you are right, you have to sing, "ja apnay sawalun par, anso baha k so ja". The chance of messing up is very limited as this time one knows that its the final chance to build a massive foundation of his/her carrier. When they pass the degree, they are awarded with a page which means "You Lose".
To me the only way to win this war is to change the sides and become a teacher...!
