Crime weaver for gamers Act 2050

WRITTEN by SARMAD ASHRAF

Couple of days back, I was sitting with my 12 years old nephew who was playing a GTA game.  Along side was his younger brother who is just eight years old. Although I have played similar kind of games as well but was when I had passed by intermediate exams. I started wondering what kind of effect this game will be putting on their minds. The game of a mixture of murder, theft, reckless driving and cheating. Violation of rules was a must of such kind of game. Even they were fully accustomed to the “cheats” of the game. If things keep on going this way, the time is not far when criminals will start blaming the environment provided to them as the reason for their crimes. They may sue their parents, the technology and the governments for allowing their minds to accept crimes as a normal thing. And this may reason in a legal order that anyone who can prove he played games in his childhood cannot be held put before law for any crime. I know, I am talking extreme, but I am pointing to the kind of scenario that we are heading to. I think it’s our social responsibility to start thinking about this fact. Although age restriction for games can be one option but I don’t see a reason why such games should be allowed even for adults. Otherwise we won’t be able to stop the destructions in future.
