What comes to your mind when you hear "modern person"?
Probably, some person with a fancy outfit, a smart phones in hand which are
giving constant pain to the fingers, an all custom made Honda civic '95, a
hands-free that keeps singing Metallica songs. You would believe that person to
a bold and confident person, who will not be ashamed to insult an elderly
person. Someone who likes to stay out late in nights and wake up at lunch time
Or may be a person who would a great taste for parties and I am not forget
"drinking". Who bullies the poor and doesn't care about any other
soul or a person who can speak in English and dance like Michael Jackson. Last
but not least, someone who has a lot of spendable income to impress his
friends. In the simpler words, we can call him the "YO-person". Well
something like this has been put into our minds to believe what is
modernization.
Another aspect that is becoming part of this modernization culture
is the "out of limit" attitudes. You can also call it being
"social" and "up-to-date". Well, before I start off, I am
not here to have a debate about friendships between males and females, not
because I think it’s appropriate, but because things much worse than this have
become a norm in our society. Just take the example of this era's "love
birds" and their beloved "Valentine's day". We have socially
accepted the fact that if we see a "date", it’s nothing to be alarmed
off. I am not seeing to go and hit them, but I think their needs to be a change
backwards towards our national and religious culture, at least to some extent.
I wonder at the girls and boys who simply look so cheap in the dresses that
they wear. Not just that the purpose of clothing is being actually ignored, but
the sense of putting on something that looks nice on you is also diminishing.
People try to be what the “In” thing is rather than being who they actually
are.
I sum this up by some questions that should be analysed. Who are
we? What is our purpose of existence? A person who is poor, speaks Urdu, walks
in shalwar qameez, has beard, offers the duties of religion and is kind to
other humans, can't he have novel and gentle thoughts? Can't he be modern and
poor at the same time? I think we have a wrong definition of the
"modern". Modern is not merely the physical appearance and habits but
it is the mental attitude of being open minded, positive, responsible and
change loving person. Of course, after this, the physical things come into
play, but not to adopt something that is not for you rather something that suits
you and make you gentle. And being Gentle in yours looks, your way of
communication, your actions and your deeds. Let us all stop the race to become
modern and try to become noble and gentle, a modern person from inside, not
outside.
